7 April 1746: Prince Frederick of Hesse-Cassel with the Hessian contingent left Dunkeld, crossed the River Tay and marched to Perth, where they encamped on the North Inch. The Duke of Cumberland had instructed the Hessians to return to their former quarters at Perth and Stirling.1
