
1 April 1746: A force of Hessian hussars and British dragoons under the command of Major-General John Lindsay, Earl of Crawford, set out from Dunkeld to relieve Blair Castle. Near the entrance to the Pass of Killiecrankie, they met a body of Jacobites and withdrew back towards Dunkeld after a standoff.1
